Student Centered Storytelling

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

This session explores the methods used by the Mid-Continent Oceanographic Institute (MOI), a Twin Cities tutoring and writing nonprofit in disguise, to guide students in creating and broadcasting their original stories. MOI volunteers and staff partner with teachers, students, and literary and media professionals to share student stories through professional publications, in-house chapbooks, and podcasts. We focus on placemaking to prime students' creative pumps, incorporating technology to drive engagement, and broadcasting the fruits of students' labor through a variety of media reaching beyond the classroom. This session is recommended for professionals feeling constrained by minimal resources who are open to creative approaches to driving youth engagement and academic success via youth centered curricula focusing on storytelling and creative writing. MOI's creative writing programs serve over 1400 Twin Cities K-12 youth annually, join us and see what our programs can do for you!
