When All Means All: Partnerships and Programming for Students with Special Needs

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

As students with physical, cognitive, and sensory needs come through the doors of our libraries and classrooms, there are many things we can do to create a welcoming place for them in our programs. Some options include providing print and digital resources in a variety of formats, techniques to make spaces more friendly, developing sensory-friendly story times, strategies for successful communication, or hands on activities such as games, Legos, or puzzles. In one example, through a partnership of a strong parent advocate, a school librarian, and the Center for Engaging Autism (www.cea4autism.org), students in a self-contained ASD program have become regular, engaged library users. In this presentation we will explore  ideas for programming and activities and provide information about resources that are available to help serve all students.
